Sustainable Transportation

Transportation is the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) in Caledon. You can reduce your carbon footprint by how you choose to travel. Try active transportation (walking or cycling), carpooling and using vehicles that use alternative low-carbon fuels (such as hybrid, biodiesel and electric).

Electric vehicles

A key strategy to reduce emissions from transportation and mitigate the impacts of climate change is to use electric vehicles. Driving an electric vehicle is estimated to save drivers between $1500 - $2000 annually, due to reduced maintenance and fueling costs.

Incentives

The Province of Ontario has a Green Vehicle License Plate program . The program allows vehicles with green plates to use the high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane even if you are the only person in the vehicle.

The Federal Government offers incentives up to $5,000 for the purchase of electric vehicles in Ontario.

Charging stations

There are more than 4,500 public charging stations in Canada. The Province has funded 500 stations (Level 2 and Level 3) in Ontario.
